I received my BA in English from the University of Washington in Seattle, graduating with honors, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, then earned my master's degree in English at the same university. I taught my first writing class in 1989, and spent the next eight years teaching composition, literature, ESL, creative writing and business writing courses at various colleges and universities in British Columbia, Canada.

When my daughter was born in 1997, I left teaching and launched a second career as a freelance writer and editor; my articles and essays have been published (in print and online) in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan.

In my work with Accepted.com, I focus on highlighting the strong points of each applicant's writing, as well as identifying the areas that need extra work. I encourage my clients to build their essays around the unique experiences that make them who they are — there's no such thing as a single "right" way to craft an essay, and no magic formula or template that works for everyone. I love helping each client transform his or her ideas and rough drafts into coherent, engaging personal essays, and I always feel a little thrill of satisfaction when we make it to that "Eureka!" moment in the writing process.
