My personal writing skills have always helped me stand out from the pack. Essays I’ve written earned scholarships for a French study abroad program and a full tuition award for my undergraduate studies. While pursuing a degree in history at Brigham Young University, professors handpicked me to coach student writers as a teaching assistant. Upon graduation in 2002, I sought to apply my writing skills beyond academia. I worked in the business arena as a project manager and corporate trainer. In these positions, I synthesized complex technical processes into succinct documents and presentations used to train executive staff. In recognition of my training abilities I was invited by the Nature Conservancy to Kunming, China to conduct a professional presentation skills workshop offered to in-house scientists.

My business background facilitated a smooth transition into a new role at the Columbia Business School Admissions office in 2004. There I coordinated prospective student interviews and evaluated applications submitted by top-notch applicants from around the world. Having reviewed hundreds of applications, I know first-hand the elements of a strong MBA package. I’ve seen what will make an admissions committee take notice—and what will not. I’ve since moved on from CBS admissions to pursue a master’s degree at the Columbia Journalism School. Writing and editing are a part of my daily practice, crafts that I love to cultivate in collaboration with others.

Based on my experience in admissions and as a successful graduate school applicant, many friends and associates have asked me to assist them with their application essays. Together through this mentoring relationship, I’ve helped them view the application process as an opportunity to review the progress they’ve made toward their life-long pursuits, and solidify their goals for the future.
