Writing has always been my passion, and led me to earn a B.A. in English Literature from U.C. Berkeley in 1982, where I also edited the Jewish campus newspaper during my senior year. After graduation, I worked for several years in health care public relations, starting at UCLA Medical Center, writing for the alumni magazines for the graduate schools of medicine, nursing, public health, and dentistry. After earning my master`s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, I worked as an editor in the corporate communications department of a Fortune 500 company, leaving just before I had my first child.
In the ensuing years, I’ve also developed my work in writing humor, a genre that requires very tight writing to be effective. Since 2001, I’ve written three award-winning humor books, including The Women’s Daily Irony Supplement (named ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year in humor in 2008), as well as hundreds of essays and features, which have appeared in a variety of media, including Ladies’ Home Journal, Woman’s Day, Family Circle, the Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, and many, many others. I am also a winner of the Online Column Writing Contest, given by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists (2009). My work is carried regularly by Mommasaid.net, Aish.com, and on my own web site, www.judygruen.com.
I joined Accepted.com in 1996 -- the first editor hired by founder Linda Abraham when the business began to grow. As a trained journalist, I love learning about my clients' varied — dare I say "diverse"? — backgrounds and impressive talents, and helping them form their ideas into well-crafted essays that will help win their acceptance to the schools of their choice. Together with Linda Abraham, I have also written the ebook MBA Letters of Recommendation That Rock, and am a member of the Association of International Graduate School Consultants (AIGAC).
My Accepted.com clients have gone on to earn graduate degrees from Stanford, Harvard, Wharton, University of Chicago (Booth), UCLA, Northwestern (Kellogg School of Management), University of Pittsburgh Medical School, USC, University of Michigan, Emory University, University of Texas, and many others. It's always a thrill to get the call or email from an excited applicant, telling me, "I'm in!"
