Please feel free to let us know if you would like to be informed of future chats by sending e-mail to chat@accepted.com. We would also be interested in knowing if you would prefer a different format or different topics.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:10:42 PM)
Sorry about the delay. UCLA is having a few technical problems.

JC (Mar 28, 2007 6:10:50 PM)
Did anybody here not interview?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:12:26 PM)
OK. I have good news and bad news. Mostly the latter.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:12:32 PM)
The UCLA reps can't log in.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:12:54 PM)
You can post your questions and I will ask them to Craig Hubbell on the telephone and then type his answers.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:13:15 PM)
What can one do to increase the chance of being accepted from waitlist?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:13:51 PM)
I'm going to start with a few questions I have prepared, so please hold your questions until I finish with the few I have prepared.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:14:09 PM)
Do you want to know about new developments in our lives?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:14:40 PM)
Updates on material changes are helpful, but don't feel obliged to keep in touch if there is nothing new to share.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:14:52 PM)
When will the waitlist be reviewed?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:15:10 PM)
It is reviewed on a rolling basis. We revisit it every few weeks as we receive answers from earlier admissions offers.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:15:21 PM)
What are the earliest and latest possible dates for being accepted from the waitlist?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:15:48 PM)
Craig: The earliest date is anytime and the latest is in August.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:16:08 PM)
Do you appreciate letters of support from Anderson students and alumni, if they know the applicant?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:16:22 PM)
Yes. It is always helpful to get additional insights from within the Anderson family.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:16:35 PM)
What applicant behavior detracts from a waitlisted applicant's chances?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:17:23 PM)
Craig: Excessive contact or contact without content. We need our candidates to understand the timing of our process. Please don't rush us.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:17:36 PM)
It’s your turn now. Please post your questions.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:17:40 PM)
What can one do to increase the chance of being accepted from waitlist?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:18:25 PM)
Craig: Improved test scores can help, but generally your status is based on the overall strength of the application, which we already have.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:18:39 PM)
How will you place the currently waitlisted candidates vis-à-vis the fresh applicants? Does the waitlist get some preference over them?

mbaGal2009 (Mar 28, 2007 6:19:46 PM)
Is there preference given to waitlisted candidates from earlier rounds? Or is everyone pretty much on a level playing field once they are put on the waitlist?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:20:01 PM)
Craig: We review constantly the applicants for a given round. Therefore we know how waitlisted applicants compare. Waitlisted applicants are compared on an ongoing basis to the current round's applicants. No preference.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:20:53 PM)
Can we submit an additional letter of recommendation or an essay?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:21:21 PM)
Craig: Unless it brings something new to the application, the marginal value is limited.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:21:27 PM)
Will visits help?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:22:01 PM)
Craig: Visits help to show interest in Anderson, but you should be aware that admissions officers can't receive you usually.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:22:28 PM)
Approximately how many people do you accept from the WL?

123 (Mar 28, 2007 6:22:41 PM)
Just to clarify, what are the chances of being accepted tomorrow, or is it likely the answer will be rejection or waitlist

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:23:06 PM)
Does the Ad Comm place you on the wait-list because a) they think that they need more information on your candidacy to be sure or b) they want to weigh you against the pool of the incoming applicants in other rounds

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:23:34 PM)
Craig to 09hopeful: about 50 people every year.

oh_well (Mar 28, 2007 6:23:51 PM)
How big is the waitlist?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:24:26 PM)
Craig to 123: we don't know the odds of any particular candidate being admitted, denied, or waitlisted tomorrow. It depends on your profile.

JC (Mar 28, 2007 6:25:02 PM)
Does every round 2 applicant receive notification tomorrow or have some heard already?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:25:07 PM)
Craig to 09hopeful: Usually B. We have plenty of info, but we want to see how the competitiveness evolves over time.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:25:32 PM)
Craig to JC: Some have heard already, but most decisions are going out today and tomorrow.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:26:13 PM)
Craig to oh_well: The waitlist is between 150-200 over all the rounds.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:26:14 PM)
Wouldn't the chance of being accepted from the waitlist decrease then because competitiveness in later rounds increases?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:27:15 PM)
Craig to 09hopeful: It's not true that later rounds are more competitive.

oh_well (Mar 28, 2007 6:27:21 PM)
Are candidates ranked on the waitlist?

hello (Mar 28, 2007 6:27:46 PM)
So it is absolutely possible to be accepted tomorrow?

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:27:55 PM)
But aren't there fewer seats available?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:28:31 PM)
Craig to oh-well: All applications get an internal score and that score helps us make waitlist decisions, however the main issue is how does that candidate compare to others who share the profile we are looking for.

erica_upshur (Mar 28, 2007 6:28:40 PM)
Hi! I haven't yet received my FEMBA decision. Do you have any suggestions on how I can continue to show interest or can I only sit back and wait?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:28:46 PM)
Craig to hello: Yes, it is possible to be accepted tomorrow.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:29:43 PM)
Craig to 09hopeful: It is true that as time passes there are fewer seats available, but if you have the profile we are seeking to fill the last seats then your chances get better and better.

123 (Mar 28, 2007 6:30:04 PM)
If you're waitlisted is it encouraged to send additional material? i.e. letters of recommendation?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:30:25 PM)
Craig to erica_u: You should contact the FEMBA office directly to get more information on that.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:31:01 PM)
123: If you have something of substance to convey -- an update -- then yes it is encouraged.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:31:15 PM)
Has the first deadline for accepted students to accept admission offers passed yet?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:31:45 PM)
Craig to 09 hopeful: No. It's April 16.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:32:04 PM)
How is your yield so far?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:32:26 PM)
Craig: We have more people accepting our offers than at this time last year ,but it is still early in the game.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:32:39 PM)
When do you notify waitlisted people? On the regular Round notification dates, or in between?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:33:00 PM)
Craig to 09hopeful: Any time.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:33:53 PM)
Are applications up this year?

oh_well (Mar 28, 2007 6:34:06 PM)
Will I be notified if I can no longer be given admission from the waitlist?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:34:09 PM)
Craig to 09hopeful: Yes, applications are up this year.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:34:34 PM)
Craig to oh-well: Yes we will revisit the waitlist and release some people.

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:35:03 PM)
So waitlisted candidates may hear news tomorrow? Good or bad?

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:35:41 PM)
Craig to 09hopeful: Yes. At this point we are not cleaning out our waitlist. You will hear silence or good news.

oh_well (Mar 28, 2007 6:35:49 PM)
Do you have a better chance next year if you were waitlisted this year?

09hopeful (Mar 28, 2007 6:36:07 PM)
Thank-you Craig! The information is appreciated.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:36:28 PM)
Craig to oh-well: yes if you get feedback on your application and take action to strengthen it in the areas that held you back before.

oh_well (Mar 28, 2007 6:36:36 PM)
Thanks

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:37:00 PM)
Thank you again all for participating this evening. Special thanks to Craig for taking the time to virtually meet with you, provide this information, and make this process as transparent and humane as possible.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:37:07 PM)
We apologize for the technical problems.

Linda Abraham (Mar 28, 2007 6:37:39 PM)
Have a very good evening! Good luck with your applications!
